What to Expect After Your Reiki Session

The after-effects of Reiki can be extremely uplifting or rather unpleasant depending on what comes up for healing during the session and what you do following the session. For the uplifting effect of Reiki that people rave about there are specific steps that you want to take to make the most out of your experience.

One thing that I point out with each of my clients is that I see myself as a guide and teacher and I empower you to be your own healer.

Your healing begins before your first Reiki session, maybe it’s a healing process that you’ve already started that led you to Reiki or you were searching for help and came across Reiki. When you make the choice to book a Reiki session or any other type of healing, you are making an empowered choice for your own healing. The healing process is a journey and continues in the days, weeks, and months following your sessions. To get the most out of your Reiki session and allow the process to fully integrate, follow these steps:

1. Drink plenty of water. Experts recommend drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day. I recently bought this 64-ounce water bottle and carry it around with me everywhere! It has markings on the bottle to remind me how much water I should have drunk so far in the day and is all the water I need for the day. In addition to its amazing health benefits, drinking enough water can help to ease the detoxification process that can occur after a Reiki session.

2. It is important to take time to rest after your Reiki session. The main goal of the Reiki session is to get your body into the relaxation response so that your body can naturally heal itself. Maintaining that state for as long as possible after your Reiki session allows your body to continue the healing process.

When you choose to rest and process your Reiki session afterward you’ll be more likely to notice its benefits and to integrate the healing into your everyday life. Reiki often calls us to make changes in our life and when we ignore the changes that need to be made, we fall right back into the same problems and complaints.

Avoid things that cause stress such as caffeine, processed foods, alcohol, electronics, and social media. As well as any other known stress triggers.

3. Let your emotions flow. Reiki can trigger deep emotional healing. Detoxing can happen not just on a physical level but on an emotional, mental, or spiritual level as well. You may experience emotions that you have bottled up in the past. Allow these emotions to be expressed and be exactly as they are.

If emotions that arise are uncomfortable or scary, imagine sending love to that part of you. Learning to accept and experience all your emotions is part of self-love. It is okay to feel and feel deeply.

4. Observe the changes you notice in the days and weeks following your session. Reflect on your thoughts and emotions that come up. What is different? What still needs to be addressed?

If you find yourself back in stress, anxious feelings, or lacking clarity, it’s a clear sign that it’s time to book your next session.

Be patient, you didn’t get here overnight and while miracle healings do happen, the healing process is generally a slow journey that takes time and regular practice.
